At Dance Expression, most adult beginner and intermediate batches, kids, teens, and tweens will begin with Bollywood incorporating classical (Bharatnatyam and Kathak) and Western styles (Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary) techniques and disciplines. As the classes progress, they will be taught other styles including Funk, Lyrical and Folk such as Bhangra and Garba. This is depending on the level of the class. Each style is choreographed and taught to Bollywood music and remixes.
There is no age limit. The starting age for a student to register for classes at Dance Expression is 3 years old. Classes are divided into the following categories based on age groups:
At Dance Expression, we strongly believe that everyone can dance. Our expert instructors have designed our classes to cater and accommodate all levels – beginners, intermediate and experienced dancers.
We are currently holding classes in-person at our studio located in Markham at 322 Copper Creek Drive.
For our BollyTappy (preschool) program, there are 16 classes in a session (45-minutes a week for four months. All of our other classes are one-hour each. BollyGroove (adults) includes 12 classes in a session (one hour a week for three months).
Yes, you can join if you have a medical condition. However, you are required to get a doctor’s note that allows you to participate in the class. It is the student’s responsibility to indicate your medical condition to your instructor prior to the beginning of the class (in-person AND on the registration forms).
Enrollments for our Intensive program are done by auditions only. These students are chosen based on their dance ability and potential during our Auditions. Auditions dates will be advertised through our student database and on social media. If you are interested in auditioning, you can let us know of your interest by contacting us +1 647-894-7557 so we can notify you when our auditions take place.
For some of our programs, we offer a trial class where you get your own instructor to walk you through a short routine and the fundamentals of our studio and programming. We will get to know what you would like to learn, and then we will make recommendations that suit your needs. To book your trial class, go here . Once you’re ready to enroll, our team will guide you through the registration process.
We allow mid-term registration for sessions. However, the closer you join toward our year-end show will reflect in your performance. We recommend joining as early as possible. If you cannot, then you will have to wait for the start of the next session to join Dance Expression. This is to make sure that we are fair to other students who have signed up and enrolled for the full session since the first class.
Class schedule is available here
You may miss a maximum of 3 classes in a session, if reported in the Portal. Makeup classes are offered but never guranteed. If you’re in a performance-based session, you can miss up to two classes without losing your spot in the show. This is to be fair to all the students who consistently attend all the classes of the session.
We have a strict NO REFUND POLICY. We do not give refunds, exchanges and class packages are non-shareable. Exceptions do apply in the case of medical circumstances in which case you would need to provide a Doctor’s note indicating that you’re unable to dance. If Dance Expression must close (COVID-19-related), our priority will be to move your classes online. We will NOT offer a refund in this situation.
We do not offer drop-in classes for sessional classes. Adults can come in for drop-in BollyFit or Mommy and Me classes.
Yes, we have our annual recital for friends and family to watch what students have learned in their sessions. Students get to learn firsthand what it is like to perform on stage with professional lighting, costumes, and an audience. We also give our students opportunities to perform at events and in local competitions.
As good practice, you should arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of the class. For your first class, you should come 15 minutes early to meet your instructor.
The duration of all classes is one hour except for preschool classes which are 45 minutes long. Exceptions will apply to workshops and intensive programs.
At Dance Expression, we believe that wearing studio uniforms gives students a sense of belonging to our family. It also helps us create an identity for our studio in the community. Uniform shirts are provided during registration for dance classes. You may wear tights, yoga pants, or sweat pants. We also advise to bring a full-size towel or a Yoga mat for floor workouts and ALL fitness classes. You may also bring a hand towel if you sweat easily. A water bottle is a MUST! Don’t sweat it if you forget your hand towel, we have them available for purchase at the studio.
We have open-curtain days on which parents can watch their kids in class. Specific dates/times will be communicated to parents by the instructor. We don’t allow parents to watch classes every week as the kids get easily distracted and are often uncomfortable with parents watching the whole time.
We offer trial classes which give you an opportunity to partake in the class. If you decide to continue with the session, we will ask you to register and provide payment before attending the next class. We do not allow prospective students to watch a class as we strongly believe it is beneficial for you to partake in the class to make an informed decision about joining the session.
At Dance Expression, we are committed to the safety of our staff, students and the community.
